community service
As a component to the Learning Center’s diverse curriculum, community service will be an important aspect to their academic success. The more students are involved in their communities, the more opportunity they have to nurture their self-esteem, have a dialogue with their peers and be active citizens; transforming themselves as individuals as well as transforming their schools and/or neighborhoods (Pedagogy of the Oppressed, Freire, P.,2006 and Theory of Student Involvement, Astin A., 1997). Moreover, all members of the community educators, students, parents – are constantly in dual roles as teachers and students who are in positions of educating and learning from each other.
